Rorick House Museum - 300 W. 13th St.
oldest home in The Dalles

Saturday & Sunday - noon to 4:00 pm - Rorick House Museum tours - everyone welcome !

Oldest Home in The Dalles

A non-commissioned officer from historic Camp Drum, which later became Fort Drum and then Fort Dalles, built the original two-room portion of the Rorick House about 1850. He chose a site of heavy native basalt so uneven that floor levels, then and subsequently, varied considerably in the absence of a foundation. A fireplace added by a later occupant utilized stone from the fort bakery.

The house with its two adjoining park-like lots has passed through the hands of several people important to The Dalles history including Congressman Malcolm Moody, the Lang sisters and the latest longtime residents, Eck and May Rorick.

Our Society came into possession of the property in the early 1990's and has its headquarters there. We are proud to welcome you to the oldest surviving home in one of the oldest continuously-occupied communities in the West.

Museum docents conduct tours on Saturdays & Sundays, 10 am to 4 pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Museum can be made available on other occasions for special events; write, phone or email us to make arrangements.

The Wasco County Historical Society promotes appreciation of the local heritage by maintaining the 1850 Moody/Rorick House for the public, and by preserving and disseminating historical information about the County's people, places and events

We invite you to join the Society and to participate in our activities.
